From helping Leopard owners trying to get this model connected via wireless, I have come to the conclusion that it has a problem with WPA and WPA2, or at least it has a problem with Airport networks when using this security type. I would be inclined to change your security to WEP Password to see if the MP620 can connect. This would at least help to determine if there is a problem with the machine.
The USB connection to the AE failing is a concern though. When you say you search for it, do you mean you see the printer in the default browser view and then after selecting it, this error appears? If this is what you have done then I believe you have an issue with the driver installation. Did you install the v7.x driver or the v10 'CUPS' driver? I ask because the so-called CUPS driver is meant for 10.5, not 10.4.

You were fooled and followed the Pixma 620 Macintosh Wireless Setup material that came with your printer until it almost broke you. DO NOT install disk- too many drivers cause problems. Just plug in your printer and Apple will install latest software.. but it won't work except with a USB..😢
Step 1 You have looked at the Canon Site.😕 They fail to tell you what you need and there are so many choices of drivers and software to choose from yet no directions - not even in the 'help' section which only gives you a legal disclaimer.👿..You search the Internet and find conflicting answers.. ℹ⚠Martin smart mac user manual youtube.
Step 2 Click on Black Apple (upper left icon)..System Prefs on your Mac.. Select Printers.. Select your Printer and confirm your Canon, now tethered by USB, is using the latest software ..Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0.. by default you should if not download from Canon. MP620 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8).. Wonder why this is true.. but you still cannot use wireless.. and promise next week to come with an answer to achieve world peace in your lifetime.
Step 3 You are using current driver but still stuck with USB..Download theCanon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac .. Ignore the rest. they will miraculously appear..
Step 4 You download but do a spotlight search for Canon IJ and you cannot find it..😢.You sort downloads to most recent.. it is not there.. it is hiding.. Go to applications.. then Canon utilities folder then IJ Network Tool folder then.. Canon IJ Network Tool App.. Double click and it will guide you.. sort of.. then it will have you select your wireless access point.. wait.. wait.. then it is done.. but not really..
MOST IMPORTANT STEP.Turn off your printer (no, I am not kidding) unplug the USB. Turn the printer on.
Step 4 Click on Black Apple (upper left icon) Sys Prefs. Click Printers.. Your Canon Printer is offline.keep calm.ðŸ˜x90
Click + symbol in lower left to add printer - only scanner will appear..hold your breath.. wait..wait then exhale. ADD first the printer (Bonjour) rename it from the cumbersome IP address to Wireless 620.. It appears in your printer column. Click on it and go to utilities tab and press test page.It works. Now click + and add the scanner (Bonjour) for the same printer renaming it as wireless 620 Scanner.. DO NOT delete Canon USB printer or Scanner USB which are offline - for some reason it screws up your ability to reconnect to wireless and you will have to start all over again in USB mode.
Breathe a sigh of relief that I took the time after I figured it out to put it out there..🙂😎
